I Became The Villain The Hero Is Obsessed With Chapter 7

    Chapter 7: Mental Education

The proportion of psychics in South Korea is exceptionally low. Even among them, the number of people with dual abilities is far scarcer.

My powers: telekinesis and teleportation. If one wants to categorize it, I possess two major-level abilities, so they could say I’m born with a silver spoon in my mouth when it comes to superpowers.

...Ah, if only that silver spoon were golden.

Unfortunately, my abilities are closer to being a gilded spoon rather than a golden one. And there’s one reason for that: my both abilities come with drawbacks.

Take teleportation as an example. After teleporting 1km, I immediately feel the fatigue one would normally experience after running at full speed for 1km. I tried going a long distance yesterday and, despite spending the whole day resting, it’s clear that the ability has its limitations.

Consider one of the villains in the original story, the Teleporter. He only has the power of teleportation, but he doesn’t have any restrictions at all. He can just appear and disappear, jumping from east to west effortlessly.

Similarly, my telekinesis ability also has substantial drawbacks. To put it in metaphorical terms, it feels like the weak claw in a claw crane game? I can’t fully immobilize people who resist fiercely; at best, I can levitate objects, like my smartphone floating in mid-air right now.

Of course, while immobilization is hard, flicking objects away is easier. It’s like how the claw in a claw game may not grasp but still moves smoothly.

The only advantage? Perhaps a pseudo-charged attack? If I gather my energy for a while and release it all at once, it does some decent damage. I’ve been using this in conjunction with teleportation to break villainous schemes.

Regardless of the advantages, the fact that my abilities are flawed remains indisputable. But still.

    But still, you know?

If I had just one gun, I’d have more than enough capability to deal with these low-level goons.

    “Wh-What are you doing?!”

Amidst the screams in a building full of hostages, I simply replied to the palpably flustered attacker.

“Since you’re causing a scene, I thought I’d give you a lesson in manners.”

And with that, I let loose a bullet aimed at him who had just spoken.

The distance between him and me was fairly long, but the bullet unerringly hit him between the eyes. Luckily, he wasn’t wearing a bulletproof mask; he collapsed to the ground immediately.

    Unwavering calmness. Ego’s Bullet.

Of course, I had pre-set the bullet’s trajectory using my telekinesis. But this is also part of my ‘abilities,’ isn’t it?

Ah, I’m glad I have really weak telekinesis power. Without it, I wouldn’t have hit the mark, considering my only gun experience is from the military.

Only after three men are down do the remaining guys finally point their guns at me.

Wait, aren’t these guys my followers? Why are they aiming at me? What a joke.

In this high-tension, hair-trigger situation, I sneak a glance at my smartphone still floating in mid-air, live-streaming perfectly.

[Just killed 3 of them LOL]

    [Wow, this is insane!]

[Weren’t they on the same side? Why did he just kill them?]

    [Shouldn’t this be rated 19+? There’s blood]

[Oh sh*t, those guys is in big trouble]

[Is this Egoistic guy a saint or what?]

    [One shot, one kill 😨]

[Are you all insane bastards? This is not a game, it is a real situation. These days things are just...]

[Where are the heroes? The villain is taking care of it in their place Hahaha]

[I’m really worried about the people there]

    [Hang in there, everyone!]

...A brief look was enough to unsettle me.

I turn back to gauge the atmosphere in the room.

The hostages who were screaming now cover their ears and tremble.

    Yeah, gunshots are scary.

A mix of men and women, mostly in their 20s and 30s, are the hostages.

...I’m not even sure what building this is. Is it a company?

As I’m pondering, one of the guys pointing a gun at me starts yelling.

    What a rude bastard.

“Egoistic! What did we do wrong to deserve this?”

The nerve of this guy yelling at me. Honestly, I wouldn’t have given a damn about this attack if they hadn’t messed with my name. That’s the job of heroes. Of course, I plan on taking down any villain causing large-scale casualties, but still.

Anyway, for the clueless fool who still doesn’t know what he’s done wrong, I decided to enlighten him personally.

“Mistake? No mistake has been made.”

As I spoke, I twirled the gun in my hand. Their flinches were amusing. These bastards, at least they’re not shooting at me, their supposed idol. Although I did feel a little sorry when even the hostages who were sneaking peeks started to flinch.

“If ignorance is a crime, then yes, you could say you’ve made a mistake! If that’s the case, then you all are.”

Simultaneously with my words, I levitated several guns I’d hidden in my coat using telekinesis. Their eyes widened at the sight of the guns floating in mid-air.

What, did they think I was only going to use my hands? I’m a telekinetic, idiots.

“You are all guilty of high treason. ‘Immediate execution...‘”

With that, I fired the levitated guns all at once, in multiple directions.

Against the backdrop of the hostages’ screaming, my ‘followers’ fell one by one with the sound of gunshots.

I only wanted to give them some reeducation; perhaps it was a bit extreme. But they’ll take today’s lesson to heart in their next lives, won’t they?

Thinking so, I deflected an incoming bullet with my telekinesis. As weak as my powers might be, they’re still strong enough to change a bullet’s trajectory. Of course, that’s assuming I knew a bullet would come flying in the first place.

    “Ah, ah...”

The one left standing, the sole survivor among my ‘followers’.

I had a simple reason to leave one alive.

[Oppa! That woman needs to be spared!]

As Seo Eun told me, someone who could be helpful. Our potential ally that I had earmarked from the beginning.

Her name was Soo-bin, if I remember correctly. Seo Eun said she hadn’t even wanted to come out here, but was dragged out by other followers. She hadn’t harmed anyone since arriving, just stood there frozen. She’s still a bad person for participating in the terror.

So, having shot everyone else, I walked slowly towards her, smiling.

    Tap. Tap. Tap...

    “Ah, ah... Please, save me...”

As I approached, she started shaking uncontrollably. She doesn’t even shoot at me anymore. Maybe she knows it would be futile?

Finally, I stood right in front of her, who was trembling like a broken doll.

    “Hu, huuuk...”

Standing before her, who was almost on the brink of tears, I grabbed her chin with one hand.

And with the other hand, I removed the mask covering her face.

As the mask came off, her appearance was revealed.

The first thought that came to me when I saw her unveiled face was...

    ‘...Beautiful?’

    Yes. That’s what it was—beautiful.

I hadn’t expected to find beauty here, so it caught me off guard. The way her eyes glistened as she looked up at me had an innate power to trigger the protective instincts in others. ...Wait, this isn’t what matters right now.

Shaking off the distraction, I spoke to her.

“Did you do something wrong, or not?”

My words, gently asked, elicited a trembling response from her.

“I—I—I did. I did something wrong. Oh God, I’m so sorry.”

Why is she acting like this? As if I’m going to eat her alive?

While her tear-soaked beauty had a disconcerting effect on me, I pulled myself together. Now’s not the time for that.

Steeling myself, I threw her a question designed to break her mental defenses.

“So what did you do wrong?”

    “Wh—what?”

“What did you do wrong, I said.”

My lips curled into a sly smile as I repeated the question, at which point she seemed to lose all strength in her legs and collapsed.

“Oh, I— we, without, ah, without your permission, Egoistic, went ahead with this.”

    “And?”

“And—And ah, ah, oh. I did something wrong. Please save me. Save me, please. Huhh, sob sob sob...”

She suddenly broke down into heavy sobbing.

What is going on here? She’s the guilty one, but it feels as if I’m the bad guy.

...Ah, am I the real bad guy here?

Her sobs filled the empty building, leaving it suffused in her despair.

[Hahahaha, looking at it without context makes Egoistic seem like a real piece of trash LOL]

Reading the comments that popped up in the chat window was gut-wrenching. I never thought I’d hear the word ‘trash’ used to describe me for these reasons...
